Lughnasa is: a time to rest after the frantic activity of summer a time to reap what you have sown a time for gathering in and reflecting on the gifts of the light half of the year a time to focus on storing up our energy for the long dark ahead a time to reflect on our gifts, and on all that is gifted to us a time for gratitude.

The plants which most define this season of the year in the Celtic lands are berries. Wild blackberries and rowan berries are all beginning to ripen, but bilberries, the first wild berry to ripen here, are generally picked around Lughnasa.
At Lughnasa, the nights are slowing growing darker and the light is beginning to shift, shimmying towards autumn. At Lughnasa, the stories to tell are stories which speak of harvesting, of reaping what you sow.
